How To Get Your Books Into Book Stores

We all know that book stores have only so much space on their shelves.  It's impossible to stock EVERY book that is published.  So how do you get YOUR book store to stock YOUR book?

Try anything you can think of, for starters.  Go into your book store and give the manager the number they can call to contact your publisher.  Your publisher should give the store a discount on the price of your book and will send the ordered copies to the store directly.

Chat with the manager as long as he/she doesn't seem pressed for time.  Making personal contact will go a long way toward keeping you and your book remembered.  Leave a copy of your book, along with your press kit, business card, ordering info, phone numbers, etc.  I even printed up copies of my book cover (front and back) and I use that to cover my press kit, folding it in half only so it looks like your press kit materials are enclosed in the book jacket.  I used this in a mailing campaign, enclosing the materials in a 6x9 envelope.  It mails for .42.  (I'm kind of big on mail campaigns.)

Amazon Kindle
Everyone, including some well known authors, are raving about the Kindle platform for publishing books.  Amazon has this Kindle wireless reading device on which you can read books anywhere, any time, without having to have a computer or CD player or anything else to read books.
And the best part, for us writers, is we don't have to pay for printing, mailing printed books, etc., to have our books read by everyone.  You just submit your finished manuscript (be SURE that you have it ready - no typos, formatted properly and justified from side to side) to Amazon Kindle and they will do the rest.
They take a commission, of course, for each copy sold.  You might want to give it a try.  I've recently put my first novel, Sing Me No Sad Songs, on Kindle.
